Sights of the castle tour:
Castle Neuschwanstein:
Castle Neuschwanstein at Hohenschwangau, near Füssen, is the most famous and the most visited castle in the world. The castle was opened to the public seven weeks after the passing of King Ludwig II. in the year 1886. More than one million people per year from all over the world are visiting the fairy-tale castle of the mystic king. The location of Neuschwanstein is unique and idyllic, its slender silhouette nestled into the rough scenery of the Bavarian mountains.
Castle Linderhof:
Castle Linderhof of King Ludwig II. is located in the valley Graswangtal close to the town Oberammergau. In the years of 1874 to 1878 the king had it build by Georg Dollmann at the place where a hunting lodge of his father Maximilian II. used to be. Linderhof is the smallest of the 3 castles of King Ludwig II. which he favored and where he also lived. The gardens of the castle with their 22-meters-high fountain and a terrace complex with a classic Venus temple have been designed by Carl von Effner. A Moorish kiosk, the Moroccan house and an artificial grotto are also located in the spacious area around castle Linderhof.
Oberammergau:
Oberammergau is a community in the Bavarian county Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is located in the valley Ammertal at the river Ammer. Oberammergau is known especially for its Passion games which happen every 10 years (for the last time in the year 2000), as well as for its artistically painted facades. Particularly lovely examples of the baroque paintings can be seen, amongst others, at the houses Forsthaus, Mußldomahaus and Pilatushaus.
