Ilkahöhe Tutzing:

Ilkahöhe is a 726 m high hill at the western shore of Starnberger See in the south of Tutzing. It was formed in the ice age by the glacier Würm. It is the remnat of a side moraine. Because of its exposed location Ilkahöhe is a popular lookout. On clear days the Alps can be seen from the highest German mountain Zugspitze to Chiemgauer Alps.

History
The hill Ilkahöhe carries its name in honour of princess Ilka of Wrede, who received a series of Bavarian and Prussian decorations for her dedication to the injured in the war of 1870/71. As the only surviving child of the last count of Vieregg she inherited the estate Oberzeismering.The so-called "Forsthaus Ilkahöhe" served for a long time as the inhabitation of the forester who also had a license to sell food and beverages and served small snacks to wayfarers, wood workers and servants of the estate. In the fifties the former forest house became a mere inn and developed slowly into the restaurant with Biergarten it is today.

Former temple
A bit below Ilkahöhe, from the late 19th century on, a temple to honour Eduard of Hallberger was located in a small forest. The temple was build by Hallbergers daughter “in perpetual memory” after his death. The temple was build by the engineer Engelbert Schnell. The temple which contained a bronze statue of Hallberger, was damaged severely during world war II and finally torn down in the 1970ies.

Way description
With the suburban train or car to Tutzing. Direction Weilheim. Directly after the city limits of Tutzing to the right, into the street, up to the parking area at Forsthaus Ilkahöhe. On foot or by bike from station Tutzing: starting on a beautiful fitness trail in the woods, over shadowy paths in about 30 minutes on Ilkahöhe. Below Ilkahöhe the restaurant with its beautiful Biergarten and its delicious Bavarian meals.
