Visible from afar monastery Andechs is located on the holy mountain Andechs above the eastern shore of Ammersee in the middle of Fünf-Seen-Land. The monastery church Andechs, which was build in the rococo style by Johann Baptist Zimmermann, has been and is till today an important pilgrimage church. Next to Altötting the “holy mountain” Andechs is one of the most influential and oldest places of pilgrimage in Bavaria.
The brewery at Andechs is owned by the Benedictine abbey Sankt Bonifaz at Munich and Andechs. Its headquarter is at Andechs. It is the only monastery brewery which brews bock beers all year and sells them all over Germany. The annual beer production exceeds 100,000 hl. Only a very small part of the monastery beer of Andechs is being served on the holy mountain in Bavaria. The main part of the production is being sold in the whole of Germany and to many countries, even to Russia, Finland and Japan.
